667Yee Peng Thai Lanterns Fly

posted on December 2nd, 2009

Asia is invariably heavy with celebrations, South East Asia looks to get the pick of the crowd. As the name suggests Thai Lanterns are from Thailand and are now achieving a far greater audience as they gain popularity at UK events. One Such Festival by the name of Yee Peng follows the Buddhist Calendar and translates to the twelfth lunar month. November is when this comes about if your looking on a Western calendar. This Festival goes by the name of Loy Krathong throughout other parts of Thailand. The Thai people observe this religious festival and the customs it involves. My precious action is the releasing of ‘Thai Lanterns’ or ‘Khom Loy’. Watching the Lanterns enlighten the nightsky is a rightfully stunning sight to behold. Thai people think that the going lantern is companied by any woes. The light is said to point people to a bright and complete life. I am not sure if westerners grasp the comparable belief but every twelve months see’s many linking in on this fun event. The Thai Lanterns are biodegradable and are fabricated from Rice Paper and Bamboo for structure. Flight time is about 12 minutes and the Lanterns are well-known to reach up of 1000 feet! There has been a rise in the popularity (excuse the pun) and reduced airtraffic and airport warnings about possible turbo impairment have even been issued by the Royal Thai AirForce.
