491Internet Becomes a Critical Utility

Home users are fast drawing level with businesses where dependency on the internet is concerned. It was recently revealed that 73 percent of users in the
Business broadband provider Easynet Connect’s Managing Director, Chris Stening, took some time out to talk about what he feels is a change in people’s attitude towards the internet.
In May, last year, Easynet Connect had conducted a study, which concluded that 71 percent of Small and Medium Enterprises, by their own admission, could not do without the internet for more than a day.
Pointing towards the study, Stening pointed out that the indispensability of the internet felt by businesses has been around for some time and now the trend has caught up with home users. He said that a similar study would give an even higher reading if it were to be conducted now, since home broadband has witnessed a tremendous surge in the last one year as has the change in broadband prices.
As more and more of the work done by companies goes online, they ask not only for high speed internet connections, but also look for a service which is reliable and well supported, Stening said. He added that the same now holds true for home users too.
